For Use & For Delight Tour of Fields-Penn Garden
Rain Date: August 10, 3 pm
The Fields-Penn Garden, a demonstration project of the Washington County, Virginia Master
Gardeners, in collaboration with the Arts Center, has been designed to include plants both
native to the area and era. It also reflects the multi-faceted uses 19th-century gardeners
made of the plants they included in and around their homes.
Join Master Gardener Daveena Sexton Jamison for a tour of this historic garden. Come see
how the Garden combines elements of both the Post-Revolution (1776-1850) and Victorian (1850-1900)
garden design periods. Learn how plants were used in food preparation, for medicinal purposes,
in the production of home textiles, and as decorations for holidays and other special occasions.
